Target date: Full roll out will commence in the first quarter of 2027
Overview
As part of our Xplan Evolution program, we’re making it easier for clients to access Client Portal with a modern, secure login experience.
The new Client Login will introduce a global identity, more convenient ways to sign in, and self-service security features. Existing clients will be guided through the move from the current legacy login as part of a phased migration.
This is one step in the broader evolution of Client Portal, helping provide the secure, low-friction experience clients expect from modern digital services.
Pre-requisites
No action is required before your site is scheduled for the rollout. Site-specific availability, prerequisites and preparation steps will be shared before enablement.
What’s changing
Here is what you and your clients can look forward to in this update.
A modern global identity
Clients will be able to access Client Portal using a global identity rather than a site-specific legacy login.
This provides a more consistent login experience and makes it easier for clients to use modern sign-in options across supported devices.
Simpler login options
Clients will be able to choose from modern ways to sign in, including:
- Email and password
- Social login options, such as Google or Apple, where supported
- Passkeys and device biometrics, such as Face ID or Touch ID, on supported devices
These options reduce the need to remember another password and make repeat access faster and more convenient.
Easier onboarding for new clients
New clients will be able to set up their Client Portal login through a secure invitation-led registration journey.
The invitation connects the client’s chosen login identity to the correct Client Portal account, helping make the move from invitation to active portal user simpler.
Multi-factor authentication and self-service recovery.
The updated login experience will support multi-factor authentication and guided self-service security flows.
Clients will be able to recover access and manage supported login settings without needing their advice practice to handle every routine password or access request.
This helps strengthen account security while reducing the administrative effort associated with login support.
A guided migration for existing clients
Existing Client Portal users will move from the legacy login through a just-in-time migration journey.
When an existing client next signs in after their site is enabled, they will be guided through the required steps to establish their new login identity before returning to Client Portal.
This approach avoids a single mass password reset and helps minimise disruption for clients and practices.

What you need to know
Progressive rollout
The updated Client Login and migration journey will be rolled out progressively, on a site-by-site basis rather than through a single “big bang” release.
This approach gives us the opportunity to:
- Introduce the change to controlled site cohorts
- Monitor login and migration outcomes as each cohort progresses
- Use feedback and learnings to refine the experience before expanding the rollout
Existing clients will be guided through migration when they next sign in. They will not be asked to complete a single, mass password reset as part of the rollout.
Site-specific timing, eligibility and any preparation steps will be communicated before the relevant site is enabled.
What clients can expect
- New clients will use the updated registration and login experience when Client Portal access is created for them
- Existing clients will be guided through a one-time migration journey when they next log in
- Clients may be asked to establish a unique email-based login identity
- Once signed in, clients will continue to access the Client Portal information and functionality available to them
What practices need to do
There is nothing you need to do right now. Before your site is enabled, we will share the relevant timing and preparation information.
Practices should be ready to support clients who need to complete the one-time migration journey. Where applicable, client email details may need to be reviewed so that each client can establish a unique login identity.

What’s coming
The Client Login update is part of the broader evolution of Xplan’s Client Portal.
A new app experience for your clients
Once your site and clients have migrated to the new Client Login, your clients will also be able to access the Iress Generic Client Portal app through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, subject to app availability and eligibility.
This gives your clients another convenient way to access Client Portal from their mobile device.
The Iress Generic Client Portal app is separate from a custom-branded Client Portal app. It is a single, centrally managed app that eligible Client Portal users can access. Once a client signs in, the app reflects the branding configured for their Client Portal, keeping the in-app experience aligned with your practice’s branding.
This is different from a custom-branded app published specifically for your practice.
We'll post more about the Iress Generic Client Portal app coming soon.
As the rollout progresses, we will provide more information about availability, site preparation, the migration journey and supporting user guides.
