Who remembers when WealthSolver was ‘just’ SuperSolver?
SuperSolver was built to solve a very specific problem: the complexity of comparing Australian superannuation funds. At the time, industry funds and retail funds had vastly different fee structures, and comparing "apples-to-apples" was a nightmare for advisers.
SuperSolver’s strength wasn't just the software; it was the underlying data. Dedicated Research teams collected and verified PDS (Product Disclosure Statement) information, ensuring that the calculations for admin fees, investment fees, and buy-sell spreads were accurate.
Over time the scope of the tool expanded and it was rebranded as WealthSolver. The name change reflected a shift in the product’s capability. While "SuperSolver" was originally only for superannuation, the tool had now expanded to handle Pension and Investment (non-super) platforms.
While early on the focus was on fee vs. fee comparisons and performance charts, WealthSolver evolved into a comprehensive compliance tool with feature comparisons, asset allocation validation, alternative strategy tracking supporting Best Interests Duty and compliance reporting & auditing via a dedicated Compliance Report.
WealthSolver is often used for manual "from/to" comparisons, but its most significant time-saving value lies in its automation features.
WealthSolver’s automation tools are designed to remove repetitive tasks. Automatic Plan Review uses pre-set Model Portfolios to instantly map client holdings by pulling live data from Xplan Portfolio. Similarly, Automatic Switch Proposals identify deviations from a target model to rebalance holdings, while background compliance checks act as a 'pre-audit' tool to flag obsolete plans or underperforming funds as you work.
SMSF Modelling capabilities exist to model complex joint ownership and SMSF structures. The "Used by Plans" tool finds which platforms offer a specific investment manager, helping satisfy client sentiment while optimising for cost. The "Recent Scenarios" dashboard widget allows for quick access to the last 50 files, bypassing the need to search for individual client records.
Outside an individual client file, WealthSolver is a centralised research hub where you can analyse investment options by performance, map target sets to plans, compare "soft" features along with fees and performance across 1,000+ products, and access a comprehensive PDS Library.
I could go on.
In 2026 WealthSolver continues to evolve with the recent launch of a dedicated Retirement Income solution, focused on the decumulation phase of wealth, responding to the growing need for advisers to model and compare complex retirement strategies that incorporate lifetime income products alongside account-based pensions.
Most importantly, the reason WealthSolver remains the market leader isn't because of the Xplan interface, it’s because it still sits on top of that rigorous research process that began over 20 years ago. The research team operates independently of institutional bias and the Iress executive team. The core philosophy is to assist advisors in making informed recommendations, rather than making the recommendations for them.
Whether you’ve been reminded of a forgotten tool or discovered a feature you weren’t aware of, stay tuned for our upcoming WealthSolver series.
