Iress approach to AI integrations

Introduction

With the recent proliferation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools and services Iress understands the need to support integrations with new suppliers and services to our clients.  Iress will, where appropriate, engage with, and support, integrations of Xplan clients to new suppliers or services (the ‘integrator’) where AI is enabled on the clients behalf as part of that supplier’s service offering.

Providing integrations in this manner will support our clients drive towards business efficiencies, but we would like to clarify our stance relating to the connection to and ongoing use of third party AI enabled tools.

Integrations

Currently Iress support all integrations (AI enabled or otherwise) based on a common API pattern (see Iress Open API Standard below) or through a custom integration where appropriate. 

Risks and Mitigations

Iress will only provide a data sharing mechanism to AI based products and services on the explicit instruction of clients. This may include the ‘off the shelf’ Iress Open Standard integrations, where a client can select an integrator confirming relevant terms directly with that integrator, or through custom integrations.

As the responsible party, the client will maintain control over the handling and sharing of data exchanged with the integrator.  Iress will endeavour to support secure API integrations allowing appropriate data, of your choice, to be passed through to the integrator.

Iress will retain responsibility for the application and use of Xplan hosted on our systems and services, together with the API pattern or integration within Iress’ control.  Once the Xplan data is passed to the integrator Iress will have no further control, responsibility or liability in regard to the exchanged data or the actions of the integrator. This includes the security and integrity or onward use of Xplan data once it has been shared.

As the data controller for any personal data or wider information passed through to these integrators the client will retain responsibility for assessing the risk and any mitigation activity required in the use of an integrator.

While this is true of all integrations, with regards to AI powered tools this may also include enhanced due diligence, suitable contractual cover and limitations on the use of the shared data on the client’s instruction. This may be supported by risk assessment considerations related to the enhanced risks present in the use of AI, and in particular large language models.

AI powered tools hosted of maintained by Iress

In the future Iress may implement their own AI powered tools or enter into a deeper partnership with a third party 'AI powered' supplier embedding functionality within the Iress domain.  Should this eventuality arise Iress would undertake all the neccessary actions to ensure the responsible use of AI and to protect your data as you would expect.
